Viruses spreading between work colleagues!

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.

Coleagues at my workplace have started to recieve e-mails with viruses sent to their personal (not work) e-mail accounts.

The e-mails "appear" to have been sent by colleagues but when you look at the originating address it is a random hotmail account.

E-mails are being sent between people who would not normally have each others addresses.


My thinking is that one person, witout virus protection has got a virus which has kicked this off using their address book.

Any other theories and possible solutions?

Sounds plausable,but you wouldnt need to have all
the addresses for everyone just one addy is enough if the virus gets hold it will scan the pc for email addresses,you would be suprised how many there is on a pc,not just in your address book then it sends a email to those addy's and makes up a false email address as the sender it only needs one pc to get started and it can send hundreds of emails if not caught,it may be that a works pc is infected as well.It may be none of your colleagues has a virus but some one they have sent an email to has,and it got there addy from that.
