Virusburst...virus

I saw one of many "free" virus/spam programms and like an idiot started to down load it out of interest

Now I have an icon in the system tray (changing from a blue circle with a question mark to a red stop sign)that keeps flashing telling me I have a critical system error (I dont believe this to be the case) and to go to their web page via the icon to pay for a down load to fix it!

I have up to-date Norton, Ad-aware and Spy-bot but nothing sems to be able to shift this pest...

Also tried MS defender but to no avail

Any ideas out there?

Many thanks in advance

Morning Capital Idea sorry for not getting back to you yesterday, i will stick with it as i have had this intruder on my PC (via kids) Not sure why F8 is not giving you safe mode, unless you have a floppy or CD in one of your drives...
