for atleast a couple of weeks now i have been suffering with a spyware problem that i can't seem to find any way to remove. i have thrown several recommended programs at it and though they find a number of trojans and other viruses, they can't seem to see this one.

problem is i can't seem to identify it exactly in order to search a way to remove it.

what happens is when i open my browser either a random seperate window opens with usually ask jeeves site but also adverts, news sites etc. this also happens when i use a search engine. clicking on the result link opens a different page atleast 5 times before the one i want opens.

on a scan today i noticed 3 bad cookies found which were:

directrdr.com

news-11-today.com

doubleclick.net

news-11-today comes up the most often.

i really appreciate any information to remove this because to say tedious would be an understatement.

thanks

peter

I presume you have run Malwarebytes,
Try running your security programs in safe mode.

Just keep clicking F8 as the computer starts.

Make sure you update them first before going to safe mode.
Remove everything that they find then run C Cleaner.
Then switch system restore off reboot and switch system restore back on.
See if it makes any difference.

You have not downloaded messenger Plus lately have you.
Maybe give us a list of the programs that you have tried and what anti-virus that you use.

add this as well,it actually prevents the installation, rather well in my opinion....

i have malwarebytes, spybot, superantispyware, spyware termintor - i also use regcure.

i havn't downloaded messenger plus - in recent weeks have only added the virus killer programs.

i shall use your tips and be in touch later to hopefully have a big smile and a clean pc :D

thanks

i shall remain in touch if needbe but fingers crossed, at the moment your advice has helped and appears to no longer be popping up the annoying ad pages - went through the process and now have spywareblaster running in protect mode :)

thank you very much for your help, most appreciated

Might help if you dump regcure some very poor reports about it a few years back.
Maybe use C Cleaner instead.

Oh dear!! , not regcure

shall remove it right away - i noticed a few bugs with it from the start - with the option to update it, open up again it wiped the register info and wouldn't accept my legitimate code.

i think i am going to get rid of all my computers and go back to pen, pencil and paper, a stamp and envelope for communication when not using the phone. have used computers since 1978 and though i love them i really hate them too :D

new info that may help toward solving this problem.

have been trying various things including avast internet suite and trojan remover.

a thought came to me this evening which might be what caused this. a bit embarrasing for me but that aside - a few weeks ago i went to the redtube.com site (free porn) - it claims to be virus free but researching this evening some help sites said that the site is safe but may have adverts that are a risk. reading further there is a virus mentioned called "Funny UST Scandal Virus". there are search page results pointing at sites that claim to have a removal exe file but a couple i looked at didn't work and the others look unsafe.

i'm not sure if this new info will help solve this issue but i wanted to post here to see if any of you have heard of this virus.

thanks in advance
