Virus and Error in Internet Explorer

I use Windows ME and my virus detector AVG 6 showed a virus in IE6 but when I tried to use the AVG option screen to access, kill or heal, the system crashed and I had to use safe mode to restart. This happened several times. I had to uninstall AVG and I got many crashes and error messages which went to Microsoft. System restore is blocked and the latest error message is "Error in WSEM214.DLL"

I downloaded IE 6 from Microsoft but it has not helped.

Micosoft has downloaded what I thought were corrective patches but the fault is still there.

I don't know this WSEM214.DLL file and all I have seen about it implies some sort of Internet Optimizer. Perhaps this virus and your other software have developed a deadly embrace. If your AV software won't work, this reinforces that thought. Rather safe than sorry, I would be included to go for a re-installation of ME and make sure that your AV software is kept up-to-date.
