virus corrupted access to cd drive

My computer has been hit by a nasty virus which has resulted in a cd rom error on boot and also (what looks like) a windows corruption.

I have disconnected the cd drive which removes one of the errors but windows XP pro will not start, even in safe mode.

I have reconnected the cd drive and I would like to use the windows cd to start the repair process but can't as the cd has been disabled by the virus. Catch 22 comes to mind.

Can anyone let me know what I can do to re-enable the cd drive. A bios setting perhaps?

Any help gratefullly received. Thanks.
