I noticed today that some of my desktop icons have changed.
I use avast antivirus and this is now not working. it comes up with an error '87 = the parameter is incorrect'
The problem is a new version downloaded yesterday so it could be a corrupt update (or not).
The icons that have change are: Internet explorer, outlook, speedtouch conection and show desktop.
What do you think? a virus or something less sinister?

Some viruses can stop your anti virus program from working. Try doing, if possible an uptodate online virus scan at the trendmicro site.

Did an online scan and there was a virus (TFTP1)
Avast, a normally great program, was not working due to the latest version not being compatible with the beta version of service pack 2.
Thanks Rawprawn and Sorof for your help.
