They offer either a pay online fix or buying Spyware Doctor used in conjunction with Superantispyware and Vundofix:

Does any one out there know of any freeware that will fix this?

You can do it for free using the guide (with screenshots) that you can print out
How to Remove WinFixer / Virtumonde / Msevents / Trojan.vundo
Tools Needed for this fix:
* Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* VundoFix
(both are FREE programs)

Thanks...but Malaware scans and does not show any problem and after downloading Vundo Fix this also said no probs found.
Its only Spybot that shows it and the past twice on start up Spybot has taken over and done a scan that has taken hours! Again showing this Virtumonde thing.
I am not getting annoying pop ups but the Avira package had stopped updating, the computer runs fine and I can get on the internet.
Am I being too picky?
This is the computer we use for online banking etc, I don't want to be at risk.

have you tried a registry search tool to take out any virtumonde entries

forgot lavasoft used to have a specialist freeware tool to remove this not sure if still available or part of adaware now.

Ok, I have now got shut of Avira and installed Avast. Scan run and no probs.
After looking this up on Wickipedia:

I uninstalled Spybot downloaded Spyboy 1.6.2.2 version, did a scan and had no problems!
Hopefully this has done the trick....time will tell.
Will look into lavasoft and adaware.
Thanks to all who answered.
