1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
2. Click the Advanced tab, click Performance Options, click Change, set the "Initial Size" and the "Maximum Size" values for the paging file to 0 (zero), and then restart your computer.
3. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
4. Click the Advanced tab, click Performance Options, click Change, reset the "Initial Size" and the "Maximum Size" values then restart your computer.

If you have 512Mb of memory reset both values to 768

I was always under the impression that 2 times the ram you had was best. If of course you didnt have huge amounts of ram. Personally every computer I use I set it to 2 times the installed ram and it works best for me.

SANTOS7 ---Thank you for your speedy help, however this laptop only has 256 not 512 so perhaps you could tell me the values to use

Set it to 394 - 512mb and you will get the best of your computer.
