Virtual memory

  Red Flag 16:41 09 Mar 03

I am having some problems with some applications and it has been suggested that I change my virtual memory settings.

What does virtual memory do?

Should I change it?

What are the best settings?

I have 512 DDR

put info when there is not enough ram for everything that you have running at the time. for 512MB of ram your virtual memory should also be 512MB, right click on my computer and select properties then in advanced you can select virtual memory. don't worry about the warnings just set to 512 and reboot.

I can't see why you should need to use VM, you have 512DDR. RAM and virtual memory are two different things. Virtual memory allows you to use a portion of your hard drive as though it were RAM. Your hard drive is up to 100 times slower than RAM, so virtual memory is much slower than RAM.
