Locked

I installed win me to dual bot with winxp, all's ok except that the video settings are locked to 640x480 and 16 colours. I have installed the latest driver for my graphics card, but settings are still locked, any ideas?

Have you checked the chipset/motherboard drivers are updated in ME?

I`m assuming you have no problems whilst in XP?

yes, all drivers up to date, intsalled via hyperion 4 in 1 driver for mobo still no effect. tried win 98se instead of me same problem, this is bugging me now, any stray thoughts appreciated.

does your monitor support resolutions higher than 640x480.

was it like this before your installation of ME/XP..?

  jeez 05:36 15 May 03

BBez, yes will easy support 1024x768 monitor was detected and seems to have installed correctly, no conflicts or anything with monitor or graphics card, just will not change from 256 colours and 640x480

  BBez 05:51 15 May 03

if your locked at 256 colours it seems that your running on the standard windows display driver. You need to install the driver for your specific video card. What type of video card is it?

driver is installed, s3 prosavage, got latest driver and still the problem remains

  BBez 05:59 15 May 03

does it state that it's s3 pro savage in device manager when you expand the display adapters information + mark..?

  BBez 06:00 15 May 03

does the problem exist in ME or XP or both?

Uninstall all/any video drivers, remove the card (in Device Manager) and re-boot.

When the system re-starts cancel the option to find the drivers; let the system finish booting with minimal graphics drivers.

After it has booted ruun the driver setup file.

Be sure to uninstall all drivers before re-booting
I'm not saying this will cure the problem but you never know

yes, everything matches properly, i'm running also xp and everything's ok, i've tried the xp driver, the me driver and the 98 driver, nothing seem's to work, I just don't understand it! It should be working
