Video Jumps

When trying to view video files on my PC the playback isn't smooth and the video jumps regularly. This happens with all video files.

I am running Windows 98SE with a Hercules 4000XT graphics card.

Any suggestions as to a remedy for this would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas?

It could be one of your programs running in the background taking up a fair bit of processor power that's causing your problem. Try shutting down all running applications by pressing Ctrl Alt Del and end task on all running applications except Explorer. Once you've done this try your video files again and let us know what happens.

Thanks for the reply, but it is a newly formatted hard disk with only the necessary software installed. I had the same problem with audio files but I tried using them with musicmatch and they played fine after that. I think it may be a problem with the settings for Media Player but am unsure which settings are causing the problem.
