Video connection

My grandson (aged 10) wants to be able to contact me using his webcam to provide pictures in addition to audio.

We don't want him on any of the social networks and did think of using Skype but can any one suggest a simpler / better way to connect two computers over the Internet for short chats?

How about here

It's hard to beat Skype. I would go with that. For what you want it is free. You can set privacy so that only the contact list can exchange chat. You don't need to keep the chats short either.

Well, you can also chat using "Mxit Pc","Gmail" chat(requires gmail account) and Plaxo, however I would say that "Skype" is your best option if you want to transfer video and data over the internet.

Thanks for that everyone. I'll try Skyoe!
