vga wont connect to my laptop

have got a hp 6780s with a broken screen so cant see anything. so tried to connect it to the tv with no joy then tried to a pc moniter but it comes up with CHECK SIGNAL CABLE.tried a different vga cable but no joy. what can i do now (without buying new screen).

HAve you used the correct key combination (FN + the F key with a blue square) to switch the laptop from laptop screen to external screen?

no thought it was th FN AND F8. so its the FN AND F key. will give that a go.

No, not the F key - it's whichever F key has the little monitor symbol on it. Varies from make to make.

shauny, relatively recent HP models no longer use the FN key to activate the special functions found on the top row of the keyboard. Try the relevant key without holding down FN if you can't get it to work.

That model number isn't recognised on the HP Support website, so if you're still struggling, look at the label underneath the laptop and report back the full model name and number.
