Very slow SATA disk drive

Hello there - first post in ages.

I'm currently experiencing very slow loading times on my PC, most notably with games like The Sims 2, Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

For example: it takes me 1.5mins to get to the menu screen of HL2, a further 1.5 mins to load a game, and then about a minute each mid-level load :( I understand from my mates that this is exceptionally long.

My setup is:

P4 3.0/800FSB
Gigabyte 8S648FX-RZ mobo
512mb DDR400 RAM
Maxtor 6 Y120 m0 120gb SATA HDD
Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy 2
Windows XP/SP1

I think there's a SATA card in there too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is ruining my gaming fun :(

Cheers.

only suggestion i can make is

1. update the sata drivers (from the drive manufacturers web site

2. update to service pack 2 which "i believe" gives better support for SATA drives (im open to being proved wrong on that one)

i only installed my sata drive at 2am this morning so havent had time to test it out yet

good luck
