im trying to help a friend ( have told him to buy a new pc ) he has the slowest post i have ever seen,, i know its an old pentium 3( 1100 mhz )but when you press the button it will take at least 5 minutes before it will "beep"and then slowly start to boot,, he recons this has just recently started id like to help but really he should get something a little bit more up to date its got 512 mb ram and only used 6gb of 20,, i,ve defragged and ran a reg cleaner adware and anti virus but all made no diff.
any body got any ideas?

If is taking 5 minutes before the first beep then it probably isn't a Windows problem as it is happening during the BIOS post. It then becomes a hardware problem, memory and hard drive are the most likely culprits. click here is one of the recommeded memory testers. I am sure that other forum members can recomment some non-destructive hard drive testers.
