For some reason my taskbar and desktop icons have started appearing and disappearing.

I cannot get it to stop.

I am running windows xp....

There is a notification at the bottom (near the clock) that says there is a corrupt explorer.exe file.

But the taskbar keeps dissappearing so I cannot read it... something about camera and scanner wizard being corrupt and unreadable...

any ideas? very annoying!

thanks in advance

Try typing into the Run box:

sfc /scannow

(note the space)

and clicking OK.

You may need your XP installation disk handy (I'm assuming you have XP).

unfortunately, i dont have the disk (never did). Only had a restore CD that came with my Laptop from ACER. Will try the command anyway.
thanks

Maybe try System restore in safe mode.To a date when you had no problems.

I tried the restore already. Didnt help unfortunately. This also happens in the guest account I have set up (and happened in safe mode!)

After a while of appearing and disappearing, it stops and disappears altogether until I run "explorer" from the Ctrl+alt+del window

ok, so I managed to run nod32 scan. It found 7 "infiltrations" which it deleted. 6 of them were autorun commands. Restarted and it seems fine now.

Not sure what the hell it was.

Very irritating tho...

Off to take some beta blockers..
