Using two monitors

Having asked about getting a new plug on my old monitor it occurred to me that I'd better find out if my system is capable of running dual monitors. I looked on Microdoft.com and found a page on the subject, but it explains how to set it up if you already have two monitors. How do I find out before obtaining a second monitor if my system can do the job? I am using Windows XP pro, and my current monitor is set to 1280x1024 pixels. In Desktop>Properties>Settings there is an option to "Extend my Windows desktop onto this (second) monitor" I really can't believe it is this this simple? Besides, where do I plug the second monitor in?

You need to check if you have a second socket. Have a look at the one you have your current monitor connected to and see if there is another one next to it.

Hi, to run two monitors, or one monitor plus TV, you should have a Graphics card which has the ability to connect two monitors - it will have two connection points.
