Using a large screen TV as a monitor

I would like to use my large screen TV as a monitor on my Desktop PC, but still use it as a television as and when. I have already used the TV screen with my PC and all is ok . But I am concerned about pulling the cable in and out when conecting my original monitor and then connecting the TV screen, will damage the conections on my Base unit. What is the best way to do what I wish without any damage.

On my flat screen TV there is no need to pull out any cables as I leave my HTPC permanently plugged in, I have to use the TV remote to change the signal source to PC if I want to use the PC or back to TV if I want to watch the telly.

Would help if you mentioned make/model of TV and also how do you connect your PC to it? VGA or HDMI.

Get two monitor cable extensions see here

plug one into TV and one into monitor

plug cable from base unit into extension.

only thing getting connected / disconnected is the cables

therefore if pins damaged its just cable that need replacing.
