Use of Slumber feature

A friend has a problem with hard drives running continuously. I set up the power management system to go to Slumber! which seems to work ok
in that it turns off the hard drives, but it seems to shut down the system completely, and instead of re-awaking on key or mouse touch, he must press the start button, when it goes through the whole load-up rigmarole.
Any ideas welcome.

This is a common problem with Windows ME. Not much harm in having hard drives running continuously, probably does less harm than have them power up and down constantly. If the PC has to be on for long periods unattended, power saving may be an issue. Probably noise is more of an issue. Is that the reason why he wants them to power down? If so, look at the thread on Quiet PCs.

Noise is the major issue.
Will look up the thread you mention.
