usb 2 is backward compatible with usb 1

so you can run usb1 devices on usb2 but usb 2 devices will not run on usb1

I once asked a cable manufacturer what the difference was between their High speed and Standard USB cables, they didn't know. I have also despite some searching failed to find any statutory specifications for either. So as far as I can tell and this is born out by everyday use of USB 1 & 2, there isn't any practical difference and a USB 1 cable will work perfectly well in a USB 2 socket.

USB 2 devices will run on USB and USB1 but not at the enhanced speed.

USB 2 Powered devices may struggle on the old style USB sockets
