USB2 or 1?

I am currently running Windows XP and am thinking of getting a pen flash drive. I have two questions though.

1. Many of these drives are USB2 - what happens if you plug one of these devices into a USB1 port? Does it still work, but at a reduced rate?

2. Is there any way of easily telling whether I have USB1 or USB2 on my machine?

Thanks

If you plug USB2 into USB1.1 everything will work fine but as you say, at the reduced rate. all though a lot of people here say you won't notice the difference anyways. The age of your system may be a general indicator as to whether it has USB2

1. Yes

2. Don't think so, other than the performance you're getting.

Thanks to everyone.

I checked as Ravin suggest, but there's no mention of USB2 so I'll presume it's USB1.

Thanks again
