USB2 and Firewire

Are there considerable benefits from these?

I am looking to get a DVD burner and have read that these require USB2 or firewire.

Are these required? Can I get a card to add these? How much will it cost?

yes you can get a card for these, if your current USB isn't USB2 already.

they operate at a much faster rate than USB1.1

Is it an external DVD burner? If so, it will operate much faster on USB2 / firewire.

If internal, do I just plug it into the spare serial port?

Any recommendations on cheap(ish) internal drives?

if its internal then it will connect to the IDE cable attatched to your current cdrom drive. set the dvd burner as master and any other drives on that cable as slave.

Thanks accord.

Any recommendations on what speed burner is required (I am only planning on using it to backup my existing DVD movies)

but it's dependant on the disks you purchase too...

i'd get an 8x dual format if i were you, or if i were buying a new one anyway. i'll settle for my 4 speed...
