My printer connects to PC via a 4 port USB hub.
It worked fine on my old USB1 machine.
I have recently rebuilt to 64Bit the Mobo comes with USB2.
The printer is still connected via the hub, but now when ever I activate the printer I get a mesasge saying - The printer would work much better if connected to a USB 2 port -see list for available ports . It still works OK though

So does this mean the HUB is 'USB 1'?

Yes it's a USB1

So the hub is more than a 4 to one adaptor so to speak- it has electrontrickery as well- and there for in this instance negated the fact that it is plugged into a USB2 port, that right?

Yes it does not matter what it's plugged into the USB hub is a USB1 not a USB2. As for the printer it will not work any faster if plugged into a USB2, a scanner would work a bit faster. But a USB2 hub would come into it's own if it had a External drive connected to it where you would expect to see a USB2 work about 40 times faster than a USB1

Thank you wood chip
The external drive cerainly is faster as is the firewire next to it.
So that is OK I wont have go shopping for a longer lead to get the printer to the PC spare '2' port
