usb wirless connection

i have a wirless router that works with my laptop
my main pc is connected by ethernet connection to the router and works fine
my problem is i have a third desktop pc in another room that i would like to run of this router i have been given a usb dongle to do this (i now it works on a friends pc )
but i have no idea how to set it up my pc does not seem to recognise it all pc are running xp pro
can anyone help

I think you will need to run the New Connection Wizard to add the other PC to the network. In XP - Start>Connect to>Show all connections ........

You may need to use the propriety Drivers for the Dongle

See what the make & model of the dongle are and do a search on the net. You should be able to download drivers and a manual.

Install usb drivers / network wizard as above and dont forget to pick your network name (same as your other pcs are using) and also the wep/wpa code sometimes found on the base or side of routers unless it has been set manually.

thanks to all my problem seems to be the drivers unfortunatly i was given the dongle without any box or instructions and there is no name onit
it just says 802.11g wlan dongle
and the code fcc id ru5awgo2u
any ideas would be gratfull
