Will a usb 2.0 pci card work at the same speed as a usb 2.0 connection that comes straight from the MoB. The reason I ask is that I have been told by someone that it will not work at the full speed.

They were telling porkie pies! ;o)

click here and scroll down to very near the bottom of the page. You'll see what the humble PCI bus can handle in data throughput. Even allowing for the fact that the figure is a perfect maximum (ie, unachievable!) it is more than enough to handle USB 2 or even Firewire 400. Firewire 800 would be too much though.

And click here for a USB 2 FAQ.

My present Mob only supports usb 1.1, will this make any difference?

No - the chip on your motherboard only gives USB1 - the chip on a USB2 card will give USB2. Preferably stay away from cards that have Via chips - they are reputed to be problematical.
