USB Slots not Working After XP Repair and Service Pack Install

I have recently repaired an Packard Bell desktop with Win XP and had to install the service packs, after reinstalling service pack 2 and then 3, I lost all use of the USB slots. They appear in Device Manager as working, but when I plug a USB device into any of the sockets, nothing. I checked the Bios and they appear to be enabled.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

I'd be tempted to download the latest Chipset drivers from PB. Use SIW if the model of mobo is not obvious.

Go into Devices and Un-install ALL USB devices (if you have a USB mouse, make sure that you have a PS2 Mouse available as a temporary measure), once all have been un-installed come out of Devices and re-boot the computer. USB devices will then automatically be re-installed and should then work normally.

As you have a Packard Bell computer you will need to reload the PB drivers from the CD, If you do not have the CD, then go to the PB site and you will asked for the model and/or the serial number of the machine.

You can then download the necesary drivers for your Motherboard which will include the USB drivers.
