A new HP printer has an integral card reader. It has installed as F: - after the D: and E: DVD reader/writers.
The PC has an integral cardrreader which show as G:, H:, I; and J:.

The HP card reader keeps uninstalling and reinstalling - I've muted the sound now, but can't stop it uninstalling and reconnecting.
Thanks in anticipation.

The HP card reader is causes conflict with the card reader in the PC

Disable the HP card reader in windows and see if that solve your problem

Many thanks....Disabling the card reader in the PC didn't stop the unconnect/reconnect, but disabling the Printer card reader and re-enabling the PC reader seems to have done it.

So I'm not completetly sure it has removed the conflict..

After months of intermittent problems with connect/disconnect.... problem seems to be an incomplete start of Norton. As the connect/disconnect sound rings, Norton goes on and off...
Re-booting usually cures until next time....
