I have recently had both my mouse and keyboard freezing on numerous occassions. I have tried using different mice but the problem persists. Both the mouse and keyboard are connected by USB. If I plug the mouse into a different USB socket it usually works. Also a restart normally fixes it. If I plug a different mouse into a front USB socket it works but the other mouse (in a rear port)remains frozen. I have recently upgraded my PSU so power isn't the problem. Also it happened with the old PSU so the new one is not the cause. Is there a way to test a USB port? Also (this is embarassing!) I don't know how to tell if individual ports are USB 1.0 or USB 2.0! Can someone tell me how to check? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Drew Windows XP SP3, Asus P5K motherboard, 4Gb RAM (XP can only see 3.2GB)Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, Storm 700 PSU.
Thanks for help, have established only 2 front USB ports are 2.0, rear ports are 1.1 Guess this is the problem, as mouse works fine on front port. My mice are optical, I assume they struggle a bit on low speed USB. Have ordered a USB PCI card from Amazon, hopefully this will finally fix it. Just hope I can squeeze it in next to graphics card! Shoud be OK. Thanks again. Drew
