USB problem (Available on alternate boots)

  DMAC 13:28 18 Aug 07

I have an odd problem I've been tolerating for too long.

My Windows 2000 1GHz Athlon PC has an aftermarket USB 2.0 card installed. The PC had originally two USB 1.0 sockets that are occupied by the keyboard and mouse.

My problem is that the PC only recognizes and makes the USB ports available on every second boot. Quite reliably, but only every second boot.

I don't know what's causing it and there are no error messages showing in the Systems Device Manager. There are the following USB devices listed:

AMD 756 USB to Open Host Controller
USB 2.0 Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA USB to PCI Host Controller
VIA USB Universal Host Controller

Should I try deleting everything USB and reinstalling?

Check your drivers are up to date first, then try deleting all of the usb stuff and reinstalling it, then if that fails, try taking out the usb card, and then reinstalling

Tried updating drivers to no effect. Will check Marg7 suggestion & report back :o)

Thanks folks...
