My PC has stopped recognising my memory stick and mu external hard drive. The Printer and MODEM work fine. But everytime I use other plug and play hardware I get the message "Device not recognised'. The same items all work on my laptop. Can anyone help?

Have a look in "Device Manager" for problems relating to your USB controllers.

Refresh all you USB ports by uninstalling EVERYTHING under the heading USB in device manager.
Reboot the PC XP will find and install newhardware your evices should then be recognised when you plug then in.

Thanks for the advice. I did uninstall all USBs and re-install last night but it did not work. However, this morning when I turned on the PC they were fine. Possible one of those things that needs to left off for a while. I've seen that before and should have remembered it.
