I have recently repaired a computer (new Motherboard (pc chips) and processor)Everything is fine except the HP setup cant find the printer. It is plugged into the usb port and is a working model. It is saying that it is not detecting a printer and to speak to your computer vendor. arghhh ...thats me!
Any ideas?

Is the USB disabled in BIOS?

Are you running the printer within a scanner cable link-up.

Usb is enabled in bios and there are no other peripherals, just the printer

Try disabling the serial port. Win98 used to look for that for a printer & not bother looking for USB

Get into Device Manager and scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers. Expand it and right click on USB Root Hub (there may be two)and select Properties. Go to the Power Management tab and clear the box which says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". OK your way out and Windows will recognise your printer and all will be well!

Oops! Sorry. Didn't see the Win 98. My answer works for XP.
