USB Ports starting to misbehave!

  cocteau48 10:03 24 Aug 09

I have one external HD (J) and one external DVD Drive (K),both connected to USB 2.0 ports, and which can run faultlessly for weeks.
They are always shut down using the safely remove hardware facility.

Recently I am finding that,on occasion, the drive letters are swapping themselves around.
Easily fixed using drive management but annoying all the same.

I am staring to get "device not recognized" when they are initially powered up.

I am also now finding that when the DVD drive is powered up I am getting a pop-up to say the the device could work faster if connected to a USB 2.0 Port - but it is and always has been connected to a USB 2.0 Port.

Could this be early signs of some form or terminal malfuncion of the USB ports?

Try changing the drive letters to J and Z, I have found that drive letters close together can cause this problem
