USB ports, drivers

Is it possible for usb ports to work with some devices and not others?

I have a usb device, it works on 2 computers i have tested it on. One computer it doesnt work on. Would this be driver related? or what else could cause this?

Two of them you just plug it in and it automatically installs. the other it doesnt install. almost nothing happens.

the same usb ports will work with other devices in that port. i have tried it in many ports on the same pc and no joy.

Its a usb pen/mp3 working on other pcs no problem, so def not the pen. I believe its either a hardware or driver error. there are no drivers online for this item. i have searched and cant find any.

When the problem device is plugged in, check Device Manager for any exclamation marks against the USB Controller.

To access Device Manager, right click 'My computer' select 'Manage', then 'Device Manager'

If there are any exclamation marks against the USB controller you can right click this and select 'Properties' and follow the troubleshooting wizard.
