I have a new motherboard, and none of the usb ports attached via the motherboard headers work. When i plug in devices, such a my flash drive xp comes up with 'usb device malfunction'. I don't have a clue what do about it. The usb ports are wired up to the headers correctly though.

have you installed all the mobo chipset drivers?

Are all the necessary power leads connected?

Details of mobo might help

Every thing I can possibly think of is installed and plugged in. The usb ports on my usb card and on the back of the mobo work fine though. Pc is:

P4 2.8ghz /533mhz/512k
512mb DDR400
2x 80gb HDDs connected via IDE raid card
Radeon X700PRO
350w powersupply

motherboard is an EQS 915G PCI Express x16 OP PA915G MLF

Are they Enabled in the Bios?

i think so, i have made sure all the usb controllers etc are enabled, i spent a little while going through the bios because i thought it might be the problem.

just had a look at your mobo manual. The usb header connectors look simple enough. Unfortunately the section on bios settings is brief to the point of rudeness.

How many usb entries do you have in device manager?

Do you have all eight USB2 ports Enabled in the Bios?

I'm assuming it's a similar Bios layout to my own AMI version.

As far as I know yes. Surely they must be turned on though, otherwise i wouldnt get a malfunction message would I?

I was wondering, could it be anything to do with a lack of power? maybe 350w isnt enough?

does anybody have any more ideas? Its quite annoying not having any front usb ports and i just like to know things are working! Thanks
