USB Port to Parallel Port Scanner

I have a brand new computer running Windows Vista. The PC has no parallel port but my Genius Colorpage Vivid II scanner has parallel port connection only. Will the scanner work if I buy a parallel to USB cable? Also I have a driver for the scanner for XP. Will this work in Vista?

there are USB to PARALLEL adapter connectors available, but VISTA is new ground doubtfull if the xp driver will suffice, but you will not know unless you try first, the adapter will be a lower price than a new scanner and may work, again its all new territory with vista.

Check the scanner manufacturer's website just in case there is a Vista driver.

Doubtful though. Agfa, for instance, didn't provide an XP driver for its 1212P parallel scanner but did, fortunately, for the USB version I have (1212u).
