USB to IDE HDD connection problem.

I recently bought a USB to IDE connection kit so that I could back up all my photos and videos to a spare 160gb hard drive I had lying about. I`m running Windows 7 and the driver was automatically installed and the computer recognises it in Devices and Printers and says thet the device is working properly. It shows up as USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge. I thought it would be in My Computer and reading and writing to it would be similar to a memory stick or SD card. I would like to format the drive and store folders on it but have no idea how to proceed. Any advice will be gratefully received.

Double check the jumper on the HDD - it needs to set as Master.

Don't forget power to the drive.

Then go to Control Panel - Admin tools - Computer management - storage and see if the HDD is listed there. It may need formatting and a drive letter assigned before W7 will see it.

After that it should show up under Computer.
