Hi,
I have one of these cables:

and a netgear wireless router and integrated ADSL2+ Modem.
When I use this cable to connect a hard drive to my PC, my connection to broadband internet crashes.
Can anyone tell me why or how to stop it happening?
Thanks for any help offered.

Try another USB port or run from a powered Hub

the port you are using shares power with the one for the USB modem, between them they are taking too much power causing th modem to crash.

Thanks Fruitbat but,
My modem is not usb powered - it is plugged into the ethernet port and runs from the mains.
