usb external hard drive

hi all bought a usb external hard drive today, when connected to computer it will not boot up,when not connected computer boots fine, looked in bios and it is set to boot from internal hard drive first, any ideas what the problem could be

the external drive have its own power source ie electric plug? if so plug it in then connect it and wait for it to be recognized in my computer

ronalddonald yes it does have its own power supply is recognised in my computer when plugged in but still will not boot when attached

I get the same problem. Try plugging it in after computer has booted. That's how I do it.

disable USb legacy for DOS (or words similar) in BIOS

sorted problem plugged drive into 15 sec delay socket
