is there a way of connecting a usb data card to my wireless router which has only Ethernet inputs, so that my pc and laptop can share the connection

`USB data card`? Do you mean something to give your desktop PC wireless internet too? A USB dongle or wireless PCI card would fit the bill if I am on the right lines. What make is your router? It would be a good idea to buy kit produced the same manufacturer.
If you are referring to your laptop then a USB dongle or PCMCIA card are what you require.

You cannot use a USB Modem in conjunction with a router. It should be replaced with a *COMBINED* wireless "Router & ADSL Modem".
