USB connectors but not shown in Device Manager

I'm trying to fix a computer for a friend. The o/s is Win XP Professional SP2. The tower case has 2 USB plug sockets. However, when I go into Device Manager - Hardware it does not list anything for USB.

I have tried going to Start > Control Panel > Add New Hardware but, again, that cannot find anything for USB.

Is there anything else I could try or is this more likely to be a motherbvoard problem?

Check if USB is Enabled in the Bios and also confirm the number of USB ports available (if this is available); it's currently set at six USB2.0 ports in my Bios.

However, if the USB ports are on the front of the case they just might not actually be connected to the mobo.
