USB 1.0 or 2.0

How can I look in the device manager and tell which USB type I have installed as I want to buy an external usb2.0 cdrw. Cheers

how old is your pc IE wha6t processor does it have and the spec would be helpfull

purchase external usb2.0 as it is Interchangeable with USB 1.0, and can be used for the future if your OS does not support.


In the device manager scroll down untill you see the universal serial bus controllers and on the plus open up.You should see if there is any Usb 2.root hub devices there.

Try opening Device Manager and looking under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". If you have an entry like "Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller" you have at least one USB 2.0 port. If you have an entry like "Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB Enhanced Host Controller", you have at least one USB 1.1 port.

Brand new pc with xp home and and 2400 xp. Had a look in device manager without seeing any of above in usb controller but cant imagine it would not be usb 2.0
