I have installed an Epson printer and after installation it has caused lots of problems, it stops the system from shutting down, made it un stable, etc. So I removed the printer, now Windows SP1 and Update complain I have update.inf is incorrect or Cyriptographic (Spelling?) services is not running which it is, then when I tried to connect to the internet it would not connect because of error 711 and looked it up it was because of some service or other was not running (Remote Access Manager...?). However, I used all the tips windows help gave me to try to re-enable the service then I got Access denied and Corrupted service, Etc.'

Next I tried a Windows repair, this did not work, I then tried to Format the HDD which was resulted in: Access Denied error message.

If the problems I have mentioned cannot be solved I have all the discs as I built it myself, how can I format the HDD in a different way?

Thanks.

Do you have a Windows 98 Boot disc?

Boot from that and delete XP - pop the XP disc in and start all over.

Your easiest course of action may have been to do a simple system restore.

Are you now saying that X\P refuses to format the drive? Are you trying to do this through windows or from the X\P disk?

You can always revert to fdisk and format from a 98 boot disk.

Any help to you?

If you haven't got a W98 boot disk, you can always download one from here:

Personally, I think that this would be your best course of action.

DOES ANYONE LOOK @ MY CLICK HERE'S? (does a mad face ;-)))

Download the boot files and stick them on a floppy disc.

Insert the floppy disc and reboot, the computer shouuld boot from the disc. If it does not set the computer to boot from a floppy.

When you get to the A Prompt type:

FDISK

Clickk enter.

Press Y

you may have to press Y again.

Then choose option 3

Then click 1 and follow the instructions.

This should allow to get rid of everything then you can start from the XP disc and install from there.

Click ok "Windows 98 OEM"...It will download a.exe file.

Then click on it have a floppy in the drive and it will write to the disc.

You have a boot disc.

Then restart...

The computer will boot from the disc

Then when you come a A prompt type:

FDISK

Use the link above to use FDISK.

Boot from Windows XP disc

Go to My computer, right click > Format then away you go?

Is this another way to do it?
