Are 68 pin scsi U320 hard drives backwardly compatable with adaptec 29160N U160 cards I expect that they will run at the lower (U160) speed but is it pin compatable & work with the older (29160N ) card & cable ?

No idea, but I would say that SCSI are out of fashion as UDMA are just as fast now if you get the right RPM. Plus they are cheaper as they sell more. I do not know if you are aware but a SCSI drive and a EIDE are basically the same the only difference being the controller card

'urgent'?

the title of this thread is about as much use as a choclate tea pot

But try a thread title that explains the problem a little

i.e. "SCSI compatability"

  The Spires 00:00 20 Oct 03

Not wishing to argue here but the access time of a typical SCSI drive is around half that of a UDMA, it depends what you want/need of course but faster they are.

It was titled urgent for two reasons, firstly I wanted to bid for something on ebay (and time was running out)and secondly I thought the title intriguing and would prevoke a quick answer Never mind, still IF too late now but if someone could answer i'd be grateful. Finally why do people still buy them ?I thougt them faster at sustained transfers and bettr for video capture !

  Simon_P 16:57 21 Oct 03

SCSI is still faster for sustained transfers.
ATA 100, 133 etc slows down on sustained transfer. And some experts say that they rarly achieve 100/133 mbs transfer rates for sustained transfer. I have read that ATA will only achieve around 66 mbs for sustained transfers.

I am sure that some may not agree.

However SATA may perform beter!?

agree that's why they like em for a raid setup. Backup for business
