i have just put together a base unit. when i connect the monitor it comes on and then goes off, so i can't see to add the OS or the drivers or check the BIOS.I have an old compaq P50 monitor. It works fine on the commputer i am using to write this. Someone has told me it might be a conflict between my monitor and my new graphics card a geforce mx4.Any help appreciated.

is not seated correctly. try removing it and putting it back in. If it is an agp card without a back locking clip it is possible for the back to rise out of the socket when the screw is put in

i had a simular problem,it was also a geforce 4 and it was the psu,what is the psu wattage

i checked the graphics card it was fine. still same problem. the psu is 300 watts.
