I have windows 98 350MHZ MMX Intel Pentium 2.Is it difficult to uninstall Windows 98 and install Windows XP Pro ? Do I have to change or replace any other hardware? Does Microsoft or anyone have a booklet explaining how to do it, step by step? Or shall I get a professinal IT technician to do it? Any suggestions are most welcome.

What is the rest of the spec?

Hard Drive, etc

IMO i think (from the specs you've given) that XP would be very sluggish and personally i wouldn't install XP on a P2 350.

Specifications are Intel 440BX AGPset, 256 SDRAM 100MHZ, 512KB internal Cache, Asus V7100 32MB graphic Card, Sound Blaster Live EF40, Direct X 9, Supra Max 56K modem, American Megatrends plc Amibios motherhead type R1.3

If your system is running OK there is no earthly reason to 'upgrade'. However it does seem a little slow for XP and your scanner. printer, modem etc., may not work. I have put XP on 350Mhz computers and they run slower then Rudetski.

Thanks all 4 yr advise. I wanted to upgrade b'cos MSN Messenger only works with Webcam, face to face & voice, on XP and not 98. I like to see my daughter in Canada, sometimes! But I will not do it.

Baslla321; I'm sure you do not need XP just so that you could run a WebCam with audio (voice). Create a new thread (start a new subject) with that as a heading and I'm sure there will be many here who can give advice (Unfortunately I'm not experienced in this area). I would also imagine that for good WebCam video you may also need broadband.

Got MSM Messenger, win98 and webcam. All work fine together. You'll find Broadband a HUGH advantage though.

Confab.....Please Do u work face to face or just voice? My daughter gets my picture as she has broadband and XP, but I only have dial up/56K modem and Win98, I only managed to see her once for a few seconds. MSN Messenger keeps telling me to stop trying "face to face" and just go om Voice only.

Baslla321 - Dial Up is way to slow to be practical for webcams. her connection is fast but yours is still too slow...
