Upgrading processor chip

I'm just getting into the technical side of computing, and would like to know how I can upgrade my processor from 1GHz to 2.8GHz. I have an Intel Celeron chip and I've seen the higher spec one's advertised, but I'm not sure how involved the process is or what I need to buy. Do I need to get a new motherboard? or is it just a case of swapping the chip's around?

Yes you will need a motherboard.

Your existing memory may well be incompatable and you will also have to consider a new Power Supply Unit as your existing one will be under powered.
