Upgrading from modem to router

How much hassle will it be ditching my BT Voyager 105 modem and installing a Netgear DG834G wireless router?

My connection was working fine through the modem until AOL recently "improved" my service which has resulted in my pc sometimes needing to be re-booted before AOL will connect.

My desktop does not have built-in wireless but presumably I can have a wired connection to the router?

Am I correct in assuming that the connection will then be "always on"?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

No hassle at all. Five minute job.

Best thing about it is you will no longer need to have AOL software on your machine.

Yes, always on.

As long as you have an ethernet/network card in your PC then you should be fine.

Thanks Snec/Dipso.

Yes I have the ethernet/network card.

There's also an "infra-red device" listed. Is that the same as "wireless" or is it something different?

My old IBM T31 calls the Ir "wireless" of course its not the sort of wireless you need for the router.

Ir will only connect to other Ir devices and uses Infra red waves, The wireless on the router uses radio waves.
