Upgrading mainboard with Windows XP

I have recently upgraded my operating system from ME to XP Home, by purchasing an oem version of the XP software.
I would now like to upgrade my system further, by initially replacing the mainboard so that eventually I can install a faster processor and graphics card.
Will I be able to install my existing peripherals (hard drives, cards etc) on the new mainboard without a "clean install"?
Also, will XP allow such a radical change of components, having already been registered under the present set up?
