A friend has asked mt if it is easy to upgrade the hard drive for his laptop.

I thought that it would not be reconmended to do a task youself. I know you can upgrade the RAM for a latop but I think the hard drive would be more tricky.

Anyone ever done this upgrade before?

Most laptop just slot in easily on the underside of the machine.

Four screws to hold in into a caddy and then just slide in.

Make sure the BIOS is capable of handling the size of HDD bfore you buy.

Transfer of Software, particularly if the Laptop is made by one of the Big Boys.

They don't make it easy for you to install other folks kit.

Upgraded my Compaq from a 17 gig to a 40gig. The 40gig has a 8mb buffer and a 5400rpm speed. Extremely faster.

It took about 10 minutes. The make and model of the lappy might help.;-)

Depends on the laptop. I upgraded the hard drive on my Dell laptop and it took me about two minutes.

I have upgraded and replaced many laptop HDs, as Fruit Bat /\0/\ says, however, make sure the BIOS is capable of handling the size of HDD bfore you buy.
