upgrading the graphics on my laptop

  Jabba10 11:28 02 Feb 05

Hi everyone

I've got integrated graphics on my laptop. I know that it is relatively straightforward to upgrade the graphics card on a desktop computer. However, how easy is it (if at all) to add a dedicated graphics card to my laptop computer?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry, Jabba10. It can't be done. The best you can do is get the latest driver, but that will only increase performance a small amount, if at all. Notebooks do not have expansion slots. Normally all you can do is add RAM, though you can buy and fit replacement drives (hard and DVD). With some, you may be able to fit a faster processor.

Some of the very newest laptops have replaceable graphics chips, but I don't know whether the replacement chips are available yet - these are usually the newest nVidia and Ati chips only.
